In May 2010, the fourteenth biennial conference of the Anglican Schools Commission will be held at the beautiful Novotel Twin Waters Resort at Coolum. By moving away from the city, it is hoped that conference participants will be able to turn off the mobile telephones and engage with the biggest issues facing us in school. The resort is also an ideal place for families to come to enjoy the conference with you.

The theme of the conference is Authentic Schools: Living our faith in an Anglican Learning Community. The program is focussed on best school practice in leadership, care and governance issues.

We welcome to the conference two outstanding Australian educational leaders. Before taking up a new appointment as the Head of Radford College in Canberra, Mr Phillip Heath was the Head of Saint Andrew's Cathedral School- the dynamic community in the centre of the city of Sydney. Phillip is a leader in the Australian Anglican schools community and highly respected for his work on building school culture and engaging with community.

Our second guest is Dr Leoni Dagenhardt. As Head at Loreto Normanhurst, Leoni brought a commitment to the living out the distinctive ethos of the Loreto community to lively promise.

One innovation in this conference will be the chance for spiritual reflection as well as worship. Archbishop Phillip Aspinall has written two Bible studies which will be integrated into the program.

Presenters in the workshop sessions are drawn from our own Queensland schools. In doing this, we want to acknowledge the very great wisdom to be found closer to home. There are three parallel strands in each workshop session so that participants can choose topics that focus either on leadership, governance or pastoral care issues. By having sessions pitched at particular interest groups, we hope to make the conference not just a lively networking opportunity but a real challenge in terms of our professional practice.
